If Google is putting your emails in the Promotions Folder, it’s because they belong there. Most email marketers find their emails in the Promotions folder for one simple reason. They are promotions. That’s it. If your emails look like flyers, ads and promotional pieces they will go to the Promotions Folder and be (mostly) ignored.
You’ve heard the old saying:
“If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck…”
Well guess what?
If your email looks like a promo and sounds like a promo…
Google’s not gonna squint and say, “Hmm, maybe this one’s different.”
Nope.
It’s going straight to the Promotions tab.
Think about it.
If you’re sending emails with big bold headers or ALL CAPS
Discount codes screaming louder than a toddler at a toy store…
Images (with links) stacked like a Black Friday ad…
To Google, that’s not an email. That’s a flyer wrapped up like a coupon.
You might think, “But it’s still valuable info!”
Yeah, and a duck might think it’s a swan.
Doesn’t matter. Google still sees a beak and says, ‘Promo.’
